대학 원서 에세이 작성시 주의 할 점
입학 원서를 준비할 때가 되면 학생들은 막막함에 달콤한 유혹에 빠지기 쉽상이다.
학원이든, 선배든, 형이든, 누나든, 누군가가 이것을 대필해주길 원하게 된다. 하지만 꼭 기억해야 될 사항이 있다
: 대학교들은 원서를 영어로 작성된 에세이만을 받는데, 미국인 학생의 학부모들의 원서 대필이 그 대표적인 문제점이다. ,
미국인 학생 학부모 역시 미국 명문대를 졸업한 경우가 많아서 입학 사정을 잘 알고 있고, 본인의 자식이 너무 부담스러워서 에세이를 못쓰거나, 학부모의 학구열이 높은 경우 미국에서는 공공연하게 학부모가 대신 원서 에세이를 대신 써주는 경우가 많다.
미국 대학교들은 이러한 대필 사항에 많이 익숙해져 있고 이러한 현상을 방지하기 위해 많은 노력을 했기 때문에 이러한 속임수를 금방 알아 볼 수 있다. 따라서 학생은 대필의 유혹 때문에 자신의 미래를 걸 필요는 없다.
적당히 도움을 받긴 받되 누군가에게 완전한 대필을 맡겨서는 안 된다.
본인만의 진심이 담긴 에세이를 작성했을 때 감독관들이 진정으로 감동을 받는 것이지, 남이 대신해서 대필한 에세이는 감독관들에게 깊은 감동을 주지 못할 뿐더러 학생이 직접 작성하지 않았다는 것을 뻔히 알아 챌 수 있다.
모든 학생들은 인내를 가지고 토픽에 대해 숙고하다 보면 좋은 에세이 소재가 반드시 나타날 것 이다.
College Application Essays: There is a great temptation when preparing your college applications to have them written for you by someone else, maybe someone at a hakwon, maybe your older brother or sister. However, remember this: colleges and universities accept college applications and application essays written in English. Parents of those American applicants are fluent in English and have even ...gone to very exclusive universities themselves. Colleges and universities in the US have had no lack of applicants having their essays ghost-written by their parents, either because the applicants were too freaked out or because the parents were too pushy. Colleges and universities in the US have had much practice with this scenario and they can spot such falsehood. Do not compromise your future and your promise to an easy way out. Get help, yes, but don't have someone do the essays for you, either outright or in massive rewrite of your essay. There is a sweetness to a heartfelt essay that no professional hand can achieve about a stranger and a stranger's thinking. Be patient, and the essay idea will come.
